Behind the Scenes: Meet the Mastermind of Painting With Sugar

Hello! My name is Sarah, I am a cake artist and owner of Painting With Sugar, a licensed home-based wedding bakery here in the White Mountains of NH!

I'm thrilled to be where I am today and have the opportunity to share my passion with you. I am not just a business owner or baker, I can’t regale you with stories of my prowess in business school or my culinary credentials, but what I am is an insatiable learner, lifelong artist and self-taught baker who channels her creative expression through edible art and unforgettable moments. I pour my heart and soul into crafting exquisite wedding desserts that not only taste divine but also tell a story of love and celebration. I've had the honor of turning sweet dreams into reality for many unforgettable weddings.

My early years were marked by a passion for learning and art. If I didn’t have a book in my hand, I probably had a pencil or paintbrush in it. That's little 4 year old me there, totally in the zone with those watercolors. I would even sacrifice recesses to help the art teacher or spend extra time in the library whenever I was allowed to. In high school I was part of a college prep art intensive program, where I met my husband actually, and I went on to attend college for my BA degree in fine arts/art history. My love for cooking and baking developed in my 20’s when I was seeking new modes of creative expression that would fit into my life with long hours at a corporate job. I was a natural and enjoyed experimenting and developing my own recipes in my free time.

When I am not creating delectable artworks for my clients I am fully ensconced in my role as mom to two amazing kids and partner to one equally amazing and supportive guy. One of the perks to running a home-based business is getting to fulfill another lifelong passion of mine, education! I home educate our kids and our days are filled with learning, art, exploring nature and soaking up all the wonderful things in our lives. Some things that bring me joy are reading, walks in the woods, iced coffee, wildflowers, re watching Schitts Creek for the bazillionth time, cloudy days, cozy sweaters and crisp autumn weather. My personal style and interests are very eclectic and if you follow us on Instagram or continue to read our blog you will get glimpses of all the different things that inspire me from art to nature, to science and history. As a family, we are into Lord of The Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter, everyone in the house is an artist, my husband and I are major foodies and our children are picky eaters lol. One thing that surprises most people to hear is that we are all way more into savory snacks at our house than sweet treats. Both of my kids have already decided they will be taking over my business when I’m “old”, though my youngest briefly considered becoming an automotive technician like daddy. I love seeing their enthusiasm for entrepreneurship as they experience this journey with me!
